No issue with Kostitsyn's Health (Interview with agent Vadim Azrilyant)

Montreal newspaper La Presse reported earlier this week that Andrei Kostytsin, the Montreal Canadiens top choice in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft (10th overall), suffered from several epileptic attacks over the duration of his stay in North America. One of the attacks has reportedly occurred during the Canadiens summer development camp.

RussianProspects.com's correspondent Evgeny Belashchenko was able to reach Andrei Kostytsin's agent Vadim Azrilyant at his office in Toronto.

RP: Mr. Azrilyant, what is the current situation with Andrei Kostytsin's health? As we understand he suffered several epileptic attacks during this past month.

V. Azrilyant: He had some minor episodes, as he did in the past. They did not occur during any physical activity. There is no issue with Andrei's health. This past week was the first time since the 2003 draft that Montreal's staff was able to see Andrei, as he spent the past year in Russia. After some further tests a diagnosis was made and a course of medication was prescribed which seems to be working quite well so far. Andrei's situation was never properly diagnosed or addressed in Russia or Belarus and he was not prescribed any effective treatment. The Canadiens' doctors seemed to be 'right on the money' with their pre draft findings and Andrei is relieved and grateful to the medical staff and team management in Montreal that he can now concentrate 100% on playing the game he loves.

RP: Were the Montreal Canadiens aware of the situation before picking Andrei Kostytsin with the 10th overall pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft?
V. Azrilyant: Montreal was fully aware of his situation and ran some very comprehensive tests on him prior to the draft. Their medical staff was of the opinion that Andrei's periodic condition was treatable and should not impact his ability to play at the highest level of the game.
