Evgeny Malkin (Pittsburgh Penguins): Crosby is not my competition

E. Malkin: The fact that Crosby was drafted first overall does not surprise me at all. He is not called the second coming of Wayne Gretzky by accident – his talent is undeniable.

Have you personally met Crosby on the ice?
E. Malkin: I saw him in several junior tournaments in Canada. What can I say? I think in this case the press and the scouts didn't blow his ability out of proportion and he does possess significant potential.

Do you believe that you and Crosby will get along together in Pittsburgh? This is especially relevant, since both of you are centers.
E. Malkin: The more stars play in Pittsburgh the better. I do not at all consider the young Canadian my competitor. Quite the opposite, I see him as my future teammate.

Pittsburgh is one of the poorest clubs in the NHL. Will they be able to afford both you and Crosby?
E. Malkin: Only the club's management can answer this question. I will not this, however, that after the implementation of the new collective bargaining agreement, the NHL salaries will be significantly reduced. This impacts us even us rookies.

Do you know Crosby personally?
E. Malkin: No

What about the club's owner Lemeiux?
E. Malkin: I can't say that we have a personal relationship, but everything is ahead of us.

Do you want to play on the same line with Lemiux and Crosby?
E. Malkin: Why not? I hope this will turn into a super line!

But all three of you are centers
