Report on Alexander Burmistrov

2010 Canadian Junior Leagues

Alexander Burmistrov is one of the top Russians available for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He has been followed during a CHL game by RP.com staff and here follows a report:

One of the big changes that one could have noticed since the season's start is that he plays a lot more of a physical game. He attempted many body checks, although because he is small they did not really have any effect on the opposing player. He also took a pretty big open ice hit in the third period, but he was unphased and got right back up.

Burmistrov is a strong skater who will always skate hard back into his own zone for defenive coverage and his endurance is good as well because he had a lot of Time on ice, but still by the end of the game he was keeping a good skating pace.

He played on the first PK unit and did a great job of challenging the opposing player with the puck, getting his stick in passing lanes (and intercepting or deflecting passes) and clearing the puck.

He plays the point on the power play and exhibited good passing while in the offensive zone as well as gaining the blue line and maintaining puck possession.

For his assist, he took a low wrist shot which the goalie saved, but then his winger buried the puck for the goal.

I also remember that he took a very strong slap shot from the point, which was a bit too high and it went over the net.

Burmistrov did well in faceoffs (there were about 4 clean wins for him), but this is still an area for improvement.

Also, his wrist shot could use more power (his accuracy was very good), although maybe it was just me and he did not get all of his power on his wrist shots.

What impressed me the most is how quickly he skated and how he hustled at both ends of the ice. His effort level is very high.

So far Burmistrov scored 35 points in 29 regular season games with his Barrie Colts.
