1 3 Zubov, Ilya C 6'0" 176 1987-02-14 Traktor (Chelyabinsk)
Delivered a solid performance at the U18 WJC. Finished the season strong with Traktor (Chelyabinsk) in the High League (Russia 2) after coming back from being benched by the club's new coach. Clearly Russia's top available prospect this year.
2 1 Belov, Anton D 6'3" 189 1986-07-26 CSKA Moscow
Belov did everything right this season. The young defenseman was a member of Russia's squad at the U20 WJC, legitimate member of CSKA (Moscow). Despite limited action, his performance at the U20 WJC shows a player with a lot of potential and talent.
3 -2 Churilov, Gennady C 6'0" 174 1987-05-05 Metallurg Mg.
It is difficult to call Churilov's first season in North America a success, but the young forward successfully adjusted to North American style of hockey and stuck with it all season long. Having other Russians around (Radulov) must have helped him with the transition. Churilov also enjoyed an injury free season. His absence from Russia's U18 squad at the U18 WJC hurt his draft stock and Russia's chances to compete.
4 1 Buravchikov, Vyacheslav D 6'0" 183 1987-05-22 Soviet Wings (Moscow)
Had an impressive U18 WJC, further solidifying himself as Russia's top '87 born defenseman. Buravchikov also continued to skate for the Soviet Wings (Russia 2), competing against professional players. Compared by some to Tverdovsky, Buravchikov will likely enjoy additional ice time with the Wings next season, as the club will lose some it's veterans.
5 -3 Istomin, Denis RW 6'2" 198 1987-01-12 Metallurg (Magnitogorsk)
Another tournament, another disappointment for the talented Russian, who is showing flashes of talent, but can't put the puck in the net and put things together. He should now be considered a mid-late second round project, but may develop into an Alexander Polushin type player. Did enjoy limited success with Traktor, but trailed off late in the season.
6 0 Zubarev, Andrei D 6'0" 198 1987-03-03 Salavat Yulayev (Ufa)
Delivered another good international performance at the U18 WJC, being one of the few bright spots on Russia's blue line. He was Russia's only reliable defenseman in the defensive zone. Lack of Super League (Russia 1) exposure due to the ongoing contract dispute with the club will hurt his stock, but he continues to be one of the top Russian '87 blue liners.
7 8 Megalinsky, Dmitri D 6'3" 229 1985-04-15 Lokomotiv (Yaroslavl)
8 -1 Krysanov, Anton C 6'4" 180 1987-03-25 Lada (Togliatti)
Krysanov trailed off towards the end of the season, becoming invisible in the Super League (Russia 1). His performance at the U18 WJC couldn't be rated as anything higher than mediocre. So much was expected from the towering forward, who centered the squad's second line. Unfortunately, he couldn't even deliver a single goal. Still, Krysanov has immense potential, but is definitely a project of a prospect.
9 -1 Anikienko, Vitali D 6'4" 218 1987-01-02 Lokomotiv (Yaroslavl)
While the hype around this defenseman is officially over, Anikienko made a strong statement in his defense at the U18 WJC. He didn't dazzle, but played well early in the tournament, reminding the observers of his size and skating. Still, he trailed off late in the tournament and his lack of motivation and aggression hurt his draft stock.
10 0 Bumagin, Alexander RW 6'0" 165 1987-03-01 Lada Togliatti
Bumagin finished the season strong with Lada in the Super League (Russia 1). He replaced Krysanov, when the latter started to fade. Still, Bumagin's U18 WJC performance hurt his draft stock, as the previous chemistry between him and Krysanov just wasn
11 3 Sopin, Alexei RW 5'11" 191 1987-03-04 Dynamo (Moscow)
12 -1 Skorykh, Anton C 6'4" 185 1987-02-23 Lada Togliatti
