Continental Hockey League (KHL) - Viktor Bobrov (Calgary Flames) has finally made his Elite league debut and appears to be making the most of it. The young forward scored for his club in a 4:0 trouncing of the struggling Metallurg Magnitogorsk. His team�s victory was especially surprising considering how poorly Khimik has played in the recent weeks, recently even firing the club�s head coach Novikov. On the other hand the champs Salavat Yulayev beat Metallurg Novokuznetsk in a closely contested game that was 1:1 through most of the first two periods before a nice play by Oleg Tverdovsky (Los Angeles Kings) and a follow up by Konstantin Koltsov (Pittsburgh Penguins) finished off Novokuznetsk. In the third game of the day, HC Torpedo delivered a surprising victory against the strong HC Dynamo. Former NHL prospect Egor Shastin (Calgary Flames) scored the first tally for Torpedo. Continental Hockey League (KHL) - After the first game of the new KHL season - Ufa's game to open the chase for the new Cup, in which Russia's champion Salavat Yulayev earned a clear victory over Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, Ufa's forward Andrei Taratukhin (Calgary Flames) shared his impressions with Championat.ru correspondent. The first period ended up being not very successful. Maybe you were under the pressure of emotions, maybe the teams were feeling each other out. Neither we nor they had many chances, but then we adjusted for the second period and started to play how we needed to, scoring four goals. I think we played well for the last two periods. A number of Russian players have been disqualified from participating in the World Championships because of the manner in which they left their NHL clubs by flying back to Russia without permission and consequently being disqualified. While NHL could not prevent these players from signing in Russia (due to a lack of a transfer agreement between the two leagues), the league could prevent them from participating in IIHF competition. This likely hurts the players significantly, as it is highly prestigious to skate for the national team in Russia. The list of players includes Alexei Kaigorodov (Phoenix Coyotes), Vadim Khomitski (Dallas Stars), Andrei Taratukhin (Calgary Flames), Stanislav Chistov (Boston Bruins), Alexander Svitov (Columbus Blue Jackets), and Maxim Kondratiev (Anaheim Mighty Ducks).

Super League - Salavat Yulayev vs. Severstal 3:1 (Series 1:0) - Salavat opened the quarterfinals with a tight contest against HC Severstal. The club first went up 2:0 with goals from Alexei Tereschenko (Dallas Stars) and Alexander Perezhogin (Montreal Canadiens) (who scored a beauty with a great wrist shot to the top). Yuri Trubachev (Calgary Flames) closed the gap however and the game remained tight until the last couple of minutes when Salavat finally put it away with empty netter.

Super League - Eight prospects participated in the Metallurg Nk - Torpedo Super League round 7 game. Unfortunately, Dmitry Sayustov was a healty scratch for Torpedo and Valery Zhukov was injured. Also for Metallurg Nk there was Sergei Bobrovsky in goal, replacing Sergei Gaiduchenko (Florida Panthers) (Florida Panthers). Other prospects covered include Konstantin Glazachev (Nashville Predators), Viktor Alexandrov (St. Louis Blues), Denis Stasyuk (Florida Panthers), Artem Ternavsky (Washington Capitals), and Egor Shastin (Calgary Flames). Super League - Vladislav Evseev (Boston Bruins) continues to play strongly for his new club Vityaz, scoring his fourth goal of the season. However, this was Vityaz�s only goal and in part thanks to Semen Varlamov (Washington Capitals)�s strong play, HC Lokomotiv came away with a 2:1 victory. Salavat Yulayev continued to run on all cylinders, getting goals three different lines (Andrei Taratukhin (Calgary Flames), Alexander Perezhogin (Montreal Canadiens) and Igor Volkov (New York Islanders)�s) in 3:1 victory over HC Khimik. HC Lada surprisingly did away with stronger HC SKA, with Dmitri Vorobiev (Toronto Maple Leafs) scoring his ninth goal of the season. Oleg Sparykin piled on two tallies to lead CSKA past Avangard. Super League - Spartak shocked many by earning a rare victory and against one of the strongest teams in the nation, HC Avangard. Andrei Taratukhin (Calgary Flames) has been impressive once again, scoring 2 goals for HC Salavat Yulayev. A problem of sorts is however that he was skating on the wing of the second line centered by Alexei Tereschenko (Dallas Stars). This move, while has give Taratukhin a larger role, has taken him away from his common center position. Viktor Alexandrov (St. Louis Blues) scored his ninth goal of the season, continuing his impressive success thus far. Super League - Andrei Taratukhin (Calgary Flames) had a strong outing with a goal and an assist for his Salavat Yulayev. Ruslan Zainullin (Calgary Flames) added his fifth goal of the season, which is nearing his career high total for an entire season. Igor Volkov (New York Islanders) recorded two tallies for Salavat Yulayev, putting together another solid season for HC Salavat Yulayev. He will be a free agent at the end of the season and may be looking to join the New York Islanders.
