Talent Analysis:
I would like to thank RussianProspects.com’s Moscow based correspondent Tatiana Popovicheva for all her help on the site and an excellent profile of Andrei Posnov.

From the first glance, Andrei Posnov makes a good impression. Fast, quick, gutsy..... That is how he is seen by the fans of the Soviet Wings. There is some truth in their amazement
Back In Russia:
Andrei Posnov was born in Moscow and first started his career in Spartak’s hockey school. He developed well with the team and in 1998-99 season seemed to be prepared to ascend into the Super League. However, that was the year that Spartak’s financial situation deteriorated into chaos and the team plummeted out of the Super League into the Upper League. After Spartak’s collapse, Andrei transferred to the Soviet wings, who were already in the Upper League, but were seriously looking to return to the Super League. During the 1999-00 season, Andrei spent a single season with the Soviet Wings’ farm team in the First League and a few games with the main team. Next year, Andrei was promoted to the Soviet Wings’s main lineup for 11 games and played a solid game on the fourth line, scoring 4 assists. This year, Andrei returned to the Soviet Wings. After a slow start, Andrei elevated his game to a higher level and became more productive.
NHL Outlook:
Andrei Posnov was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the 4th round, 128th overall. He has the determination to make it to the NHL, but at this point he needs to develop his hockey sense. His lack of physical presence on the ice hurts him. He needs to fill in his tall frame to compete not only in the North America, but also in the Super League. His development remains on track with the elevation of the Soviet Wings from the Upper League to the more competitive Super League. The New Jersey Devils have had a history of efficient drafting in the late rounds. It is likely that they found a solid prospect in Andrei.
