06/30/2009 Kazionov brothers invited in Tampa Bay development camp

National Hockey League (NHL) -  2010 Tampa's development camp will probably feature Denis Kazionov (Tampa Bay Lightning) and Dmitri Kazionov (Tampa Bay Lightning) as the two forwards have been invited. The camp will run from July 8th to 15th at the St. Pete's Times Forum.
03/25/2008 Semifinals - Ak Bars Kazan vs. Salavat Yulayev 2:1 (series 1:1)

The game saw some changes in the club lineups, with Mikhail Zhukov (Edmonton Oilers) and Andrei Zubarev (Atlanta Thrashers) being put in reserve by Kazanís head coach Zinatulla Bilyaletdinov in favor of more experienced and offensively gifted players. The teams exchanged several dangerous scoring chances by Salavatís Alexander Perezhogin (Montreal Canadiens) and then again Igor Volkov (New York Islanders) who almost scored on a redirect of Kiril Koltsov (Vancouver Canucks)ís hard shot. Dmitri Kazionov (Tampa Bay Lightning) played well in this game, continuing to have a strong playoff. While he did not score, he did cause a number of problems for Salavat and assisted beautifully on a key opening goal by Kazan when he fed Alexander Stepanov from behind the net. It was also interesting to see Alexei Shkotov (St. Louis Blues) show signs of life after having a very quiet season. Despite skating on the fourth line he was very active for his club and chipped in on his teamís only tally. With the series tied, the games now move to Kazan for third contest.

2003-04 Season Recap (Premium Content):

Talent Analysis:
Skating: Technically sound skater...possesses above average straightaway and maneuvering speed...very good first step and acceleration for a player his size. Shot: Has a strong shot, but rarely uses it...tends to wait too long for an opening instead of shooting it, and then passes off the puck...gets tied down by the opposition’s defense. Technical Ability: Possesses soft hands and can handle the puck well. He can go around a few opponents, and very importantly, is not afraid to do it. Doesn’t crash through, instead using his talent. Pass: Can make a great pass with his soft hands...generally prefers combination hockey...passes a lot more then shoots the puck. Hockey Sense: The best ’84 born center in Russia....sees the ice well and can make a great pass...makes very good decisions with the puck, except when he looks for too long for a perfect opening at the net instead of taking a shot or passing the puck. Defensive Play: A natural center, constantly gets back on defense. Physical Play: Does not fear to mix it up and doesn’t shy away from traffic or the boards...still too light to effectively use his 6’3 frame, something that is common amongst players his age. Overall: Kazionov is an up and coming, young center who has learned a lot from Petr Vorobiev’s hockey book. He is big, aggressive, defensively responsible and mobile center, who is on the right track and just needs to continue developing both physically and mentally.
Back In Russia:
Dmitri Kazionov was born in Moscow. At an early age he joined the Dynamo Moscow school of hockey. Dmitri""s first season with Dynamo""s junior farm team, Dynamo 2, was 1999-2000. He only played 2 games , scoring a single goal. During the 2000-01 season Dynamo""s management decided to promote Dmitri to the team""s Upper League affiliate, THK Tver. Dmitri did not have much impact on the team, playing primarily on the fourth line. After the 2000-01 season, Dynamo transferred him, along with another great prospect, Vladislav Evseev, to HC CSKA
NHL Outlook:
Dmitri Kazionov is a very talented center who has the potential to become a complete package. The 2001-02 season did not go well for Dmitri, who struggled to earn ice time with HC CSKA and Lada Togliatti. He also did not show anything special in International Competition. Dmitri's potential remains fairly high, but he is a project pick. Tampa Bay selected Dmitri in the fourth round, 100th overall, which is quite a drop from the high first to second round expectations he garnered earlier in the 2001-02 season. Though his drop in the ratings was heavier, Tampa Bay's pick of Dmitri is similar to the selection of Alexander Polushin in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Alexander was labeled a project at the time and dropped to the second round, but has since then emerged as one of the most dominant players in his age group in Russia. It is unclear where Dmitri will start the next season, but a logical step in his development will be to secure a spot on a Super League team.
