03/04/2010 Russian players moved at NHL trade deadline

National Hockey League (NHL) -  The NHL trade deadline came and further Russian players changed team. The first trade, the most important one, has been completed before the Olympics and brought Ilya Kovalchuk (Atlanta Thrashers) from the Atlanta Thrashers to the New Jersey Devils. Kovalchuk's contract will run out in next June. Other two players have been moved on the trade deadline day: Evgeny Artyukhin (Tampa Bay Lightning) and Denis Grebeshkov (Edmonton Oilers). Artyukhin has been traded to the Atlanta Thrashers, while Grebeshkov to the Nashville Predators. Both players scored in their debut game and their contracts will run out in next June too.
08/14/2009 Lightning trade Evgeny Artyukhin (Anaheim Ducks) to Anaheim

National Hockey League (NHL) -  TAMPA - The Tampa Bay Lightning finally ran out of patience with hulking winger Evgeny Artyukhin (Anaheim Ducks), whose tantalizing blend of size and speed never translated into production at the NHL level. Artyukhin, 26, was dealt to Anaheim Thursday for 25-year-old left wing Drew Miller and a third-round pick in next year's draft. (The Tampa Tribune article by Ira Kaufman) READ MORE

Talent Analysis:
December 2006 Update: A very good skater for a player his size...possesses great size and is virtually impossible to compete against next to the boards...often gets penalized due to his size, as he unintentionally elbows somebody much shorter in the head or for boarding... possesses soft hands
Back In Russia:
2002-03 Season Review: Artukhin came over to North America in the 2002 off-season and spent the year in the QMJHL competing for the Monckton Wildcats. He had a slightly above mediocre season, not delivering the expected level of productivity. Artukhin received an invitation to Russia
NHL Outlook:
Yevgeniy Artukhin is the property of the Tampa Bay Lightning who selected him 93rd overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He has developed quite well since the draft and has a real shot at becoming a power forward in the NHL. QMJHL may not be the best thing for him right now, since he has already competed against adults for the past two years. However, it does give Yevgeniy an opportunity to get used to North American hockey. Artukhin signed a 3 year deal with Tampa Bay in the summer of 2003 and he will likely spend next season in the AHL and could be ready to make a pitch for a spot on the Lightning at the ""04 training camp. He looks to be a solid NHL prospect who has a strong shot at the big show but not before playing the AHL for or 1 or 2 years. Tampa will not rush the big man.
