01/31/2004 Igor Ignatuchkin (Washington Capitals) breaks hand, out for at least a month
Talent Analysis:
Igor Ignatushkin is a playmaking left wing. He is not very big and uses the entire ice surface to maneuver around the defense. However, Igor needs to improve his skating speed and stability to fully use the ice. He has a great hockey sense and sees the ice very well. He uses his hockey sense to play effective combination hockey with great passes. Igor does not put the puck in the net often, because his shot is weak and he prefers to pass the puck off rather then shoot.

Defensively Igor""s upside is very small. He is a smart player and tries to be responsible defensively. However, even if he gets back on time, his size impedes him from making a significant impact against larger and stronger opponents. Most of Igor""s problems, except for his skating, have to do with his small size. His shot is above average, but is not sufficiently strong to make an impact. Igor is also not very stable and can be knocked off the puck by larger opponents. He has managed to get by in the Upper League, but unless he bulks up his 6""0 and 160lb frame, these problems will become even more apparent if he tries to compete at a higher level of hockey like the Super League or the U20 National Team.
Back In Russia:
2002-03 Season Review: Ignatuchkin returned to Elemash Elektrostal and had a successful season that will likely earn him a ticket to the Super League. He broke his wrist early in the season, but returned from the injury less then a month later. The young forward spent most of the season with Ilya Krikunov, who definitely boosted Ignatuchkin
NHL Outlook:
Igor Ignatuchkin is a relatively new phenomenon in the prospect world. He really only came on the scene when he joined the Russian National Team during the 01-02 season. He is a small playmaking forward with a strong offensive upside, but is clearly a project prospect. The Washington Capitals selected Igor in the 7 round, 242nd overall. Igor himself was realistic about his draft chances and did not really expect to be drafted early. ⌠They have only known about me for a year
