| NHL Not Interested In Compensation Offers from KHL
Continental Hockey League (KHL) - The NHL refuses to entertain compensation offers from a newly formed Russian hockey league for the signing of forward Alexander Radulov (Nashville Predators) while the player was under contract with the Nashville Predators. And until Radulov's contract with the Predators is honoured, the NHL won't consider negotiating a player transfer agreement with the Continental Hockey League (KHL), NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told The Associated Press in an e-mail on Monday....Medvedev said there is no mechanism in the KHL rules to force Radulov's return to the NHL, and said the matter might have to be resolved in court. He argued that Radulov's case is no different than NHL teams signing Nikita Filatov (Columbus Blue Jackets), Viktor Tikhonov (Phoenix Coyotes), Jason Krog, Tomas Mojzis and Fedor Fedorov (New Jersey Devils), all of whom he said were under contract in Russia. | July 2008 Wrapup - Russian Prospects Pay a Visit to NHL Clubs
June and July 2008 have been two busy months for Russian prospects. Many skated in North Americans development camps, some have changed teams, being or not at the centre of a controversial move, others are “simply” training hard for the upcoming season.
Many players belong to the first group. As written earlier in our website, Dmitri Kosmachev (Columbus Blue Jackets) and Maxim Mayorov (Columbus Blue Jackets) skated with Columbus Blue Jackets, Maxim Goncharov (Phoenix Coyotes) and Viktor Tikhonov (Phoenix Coyotes) with the Phoenix Coyotes, Nikolai Lemtyugov (St. Louis Blues) with St. Louis, Igor Makarov (Chicago Blackhawks) with the Chicago Blackhawks, Ruslan Bashkirov (Ottawa Senators), Ilya Zubov (Ottawa Senators) and Alexander Nikulin (Ottawa Senators) with Ottawa, Evgeni Grachev (New York Rangers) and Artem Anisimov (New York Rangers) with the New York Rangers, Semen Varlamov (Washington Capitals) and Nikita Kashirsky – a Russian player who spent the last seasons playing USA College hockey - in Washington, with Kugryshev in the stands, Fedor Fedorov (New Jersey Devils) with the New Jersey Devils, Nikolai Kulemin (Toronto Maple Leafs) with Toronto, Anton Khudobin (Minnesota Wild) with the Minnesota Wild, Vyacheslav Voinov (Los Angeles Kings) and Andrei Loktionov (Los Angeles Kings) with Los Angeles. The list might even grow as Montreal Canadiens are yet to release their rosters. (Exclusive article by Alessandro Seren Rosso for RussianProspects.com) READ MORE | | 07/22/2008
| Fedor Fedorov signing with the New Jersey Devils made official
While it has already been known for quite some time that Fedor Fedorov (New Jersey Devils) signed with the New Jersey Devils, the official press release came out today regarding the news. The young forward will hopefully make his first full time NHL stint, something he has not had a chance to do with either the Vancouver Canucks or the New York Rangers in the past. The young forward has spent the past two seasons in Russia and has enjoyed an especially productive 2007-08 season with HC Dynamo and also the Russian national team. The signing does unfortunately mean that the Fedorov brothers will not be playing on the same team, though that might change in the coming couple of years barring Sergei Fedorov's retirement. | | 07/17/2008
| IIHF Suspends Alexander Radulov (Nashville Predators), Five Other Players Transfers
The International Ice Hockey Federation has suspended Alexander Radulov (Nashville Predators) while they investigate the details of his transfer to the newly formed Russian KHL. As well, the transfer of five other players - Nikita Filatov (Columbus Blue Jackets), Thomas Mojzis, Jason Krog, Fedor Fedorov (New York Rangers) and Viktor Tikhonov (Phoenix Coyotes) - is also being investigated by the governing body. | Canada gets an early wakeup call (Russia beats Canada)
Continental Hockey League (KHL) - QUEBEC — At least Ken Hitchcock knew it was coming. The Canadian coach predicted Monday morning that his team was in for a “wakeup call” just hours before it was beaten 4-1 by Russia in the final exhibition game before the start of the IIHF World Hockey Championship. Hockey Canada scouts had watched Russia's 6-2 win over Switzerland a night earlier in nearby Trois-Rivieres, Que., and told Hitchcock that they would be a handful. “I think overall this is going to be the wakeup call we need,” Hitchcock said before the game. “I think tomorrow we're going to know exactly what we need to work on. | Quarterfinals - Metallurg Mg. vs. Dynamo 5:0 (series 3:2) – Metallurg rallies
Super League - After being down 2-1 in the series, with a big-time performance Metallurg Magnitogorsk won the series with Dynamo Moscow with an impressive 5-0 victory, being able thus to win both decisive games they had to played so far. Still being without Czech forward Kudrna and young defender Rinat Ibragimov , the home team managed to beat Dynamo, who took part in this game without Vitaly Yachmenev (dislocated shoulder), Zabolotnev and others, plus having Fedor Fedorov (New York Rangers) and Troschinsky suffering injuries in the last two matches. Both teams as expected started goalkeepers Travis Scott and Vitaly Eremeev. Metallurg’s Canadian goalkeeper has now delivered 130 consecutive shut-out minutes.
The key of the game is the way Metallurg played in the first 15 minutes. First they pressured Dynamo in their own third with the third line and as a result they scored to get ahead with a scramble touch by Babenko. Then, at the fourteenth, after a good save by Scott on Fedor Fedorov (New York Rangers), the home team doubled the score as veteran Igor Korolev converted in with a soft backhander a rebound that came from a shot by Denis Platonov (Nashville Predators). Twenty seconds later a dart by Nikolai Kulemin (Toronto Maple Leafs) in the offensive zone brings Metallurg to the 3-0 lead. With a three goal advantage after the first twenty minutes the game was almost secured, but unfortunately a rough intervention by Giordano knocked out Vitaly Atyushov, and it’s still not clear the entity of his injury. The Canadian will be punished with a game misconduct.
After a rather quite second period, Metallurg stretches the advantage in the third period. After three minutes Bulin skates into the offensive zone and with a beautiful blue-line slapshot beats Eremeev in the top-right corner. Midway through the period young Anton Glovatsky skated past a defender helped by a great pick by Yuri Babenko , then with a really accurate wristshot has put the puck in Eremeev’s stick side for the 5-0 mark.
In the semifinals Metallurg Magnitogorsk will face Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, while regular season winners of Salavat Yulajev Ufa will challenge Ak Bars Kazan.

| Quarterfinals - Dynamo Moscow vs. Metallurg Maginotogorsk 3:2 (Series 2:1)
Super League - Despite being carried off the ice unconscious in the last minutes of game 2, Fedor Fedorov (New York Rangers) was well and ready for game three just a couple of days later. Vitaly Yachmenev was not as lucky, suffering a badly bruised shoulder and his status is still unclear for the rest of the playoffs. Youngster Gennadi Stolyarov (Detroit Red Wings) got the nod to replace Yachmenev on the club’s top line and while his overall debut in the new role is still under question, he did manage to score goal early on in the first period after getting a nice feed from his Eric Landry. Yakov Rylov once again looked good for Dynamo, skating aggressively and also scoring the very important second tally for his club when he joined in on the offensive and skated the puck into Metallurg’s zone. Vitaly Atyushov did close the two goal gap for Metallurg, but there were only 20 some seconds left after that and his club could not capitalize on their chances in such a short period of time. Dynamo takes a surprising lead in this series. This has been a pleasant surprise especially after the club’s months of struggles late in the season and the arrival of a new head coach Vladimir Vujtek, who had trouble getting used to his new team.

| Quarterfinals - Metallurg Mg. vs. Dynamo 2:4 (series 1:1) - Dynamo wins, but loses key players
Super League - Metallurg Mg. vs. Dynamo 2:4 (series 1:1) – Dynamo Moscow rebounded from the first game loss to Metallurg with a victory in a tightly contested game that was not resolved until the last 5 minutes. Eric Landry scored Dynamo’s first two tallies early on before MEtallurg responded with goals from player coach Igor Korolev and Denis Platonov (Nashville Predators). Igor Mirnov (Ottawa Senators) had a great breakaway scoring chance, but failed to make it happen. Fedor Fedorov (New York Rangers) suffered a concussion in the last seconds of the game when his own defenseman hit him with the puck in the head when trying to clear it out of his zone…the NHL prospect was carried off the ice unconscious. He suffered a mild concussion as a result, but may return in the playoffs. Unfortunately, former NHLer Vitaly Yachmenev was not as luck as he dislocated his shoulder and it is unclear when he will be back. Dynamo’s goalie was also injured, though he ended up just suffering a muscle sprain and will be back in action shortly. | | 12/19/2007
| Russia Beats Czech Republic 5-1, wins Channel One Cup on home ice
Channel 1 EuroTour Cup - MOSCOW - Fedor Fedorov (New York Rangers) scored two goals Sunday to help Russia beat the Czech Republic 5-1 in the Channel One Cup and win its second consecutive Euro Hockey Tour event of the season. The former New York Rangers forward scored the first goal on a solo effort 1:57 into the game when his shot from behind the net went in off goalie Lukas Mensator's back. Alexei Morozov (Pittsburgh Penguins), assisted by Danis Zaripov , made it 2-0 from close range on a power play at 8:26, but Vaclav Skuhravy narrowed the gap before the first interval. | Round 19: Andrei Taratukhin (Calgary Flames) does it again
Super League - Spartak shocked many by earning a rare victory and against one of the strongest teams in the nation, HC Avangard. Andrei Taratukhin (Calgary Flames) has been impressive once again, scoring 2 goals for HC Salavat Yulayev. A problem of sorts is however that he was skating on the wing of the second line centered by Alexei Tereschenko (Dallas Stars). This move, while has give Taratukhin a larger role, has taken him away from his common center position. Viktor Alexandrov (St. Louis Blues) scored his ninth goal of the season, continuing his impressive success thus far. Fedor Fedorov (New York Rangers) is back on track with another strong performance for HC Dynamo, scoring a goal and the game winning shootout attempt. READ MORE | | 10/16/2007

Russian Super League - Fedor Fedorov (New York Rangers) continues to remind more of an American than of a Russian person. He reminds of one by his style and by his accent. However, in the end, he seemed to have caught on fire. (Sport Today Interview)

| Fedor Fedorov (New York Rangers) leaves Russia
Russian Super League - Fedor Fedorov’s (New York Rangers) stint with HC Lokomotiv has come to an end, as the young forward has left Russia and will reportedly join Swedish professional club Malme. The club is currently coached by Fedorov’s former head coach in Magnitogorsk, Dave King. The two developed a strong relationship and Fedor enjoyed a very productive season with Metallurg that saw him also skate for the national team. Fedorov has struggled this season with HC Lokomotiv, unable to consistently crack the lineup and produce at a level that was expected of him. | | 03/14/2006

The American Hockey League (AHL) clubs announced the Clear Day 22 player rosters

| Vancouver moves Fedor Fedorov to the NY Rangers
Today the Vancouver Canucks traded forward Fedor Fedorov to the New York Rangers for forward Jozef Balej and a conditional draft pick. Despite initial rumors that Fedorov would remain in Russia with RSL’s Metallurg (Magnitogorsk), the young forward attended Vancouver’s camp, but unfortunately delivered a sub par performance, though still retaining a spot in the NHL club’s lineup. Fedorov’s stay in North America largely depended on him skating in the NHL. For this reason, and due to his past difficulties in the Vancouver organization, Fedorov was largely expected to be traded prior to the preseason. However, the trade finally occurred after the young forward showcased his skills during the preseason, though seeing no action as a healthy scratch in Vancouver’s first regular season game. | | 08/30/2005

| The Arbitration Court will review Fedor Fedorov's (Vancouver Canucks) case in August
During this past weekend, Spartak Moscow departed Moscow for the first preparatory tournament of the preseason to Finnish town of Kuartene. Due to the ongoing dispute between the Super League (Russia 1) club and the player, Fedor Fedorov did not accompany the club and still remains in Detroit.
In an interview with Sport Express Newspaper’s correspondent Pavel Savchuk, Spartak’s president Sergei Kashirsky stated the following:
- The player who is receiving the paychecks from Spartak since May 1st still has not joined the the team. Fedorov’s agent filed a petition with the PHL (Professional Hockey League)’s arbitration court to review the case of Fedorov’s transfer to the other club. However, we still don’t understand which club is interested in our player and what exactly were the player’s complaints. Spartak’s management performed all of the contract’s terms undeviatingly. Unfortunately, we are wasting time because the arbitration court, will likely review the case not earlier than August. | | 07/07/2005

Russian Super League - Sergei Fedorov’s (Anaheim Mighty Ducks) younger brother Fedor Fedorov (Vancouver Canucks) made his Super League debut earlier in the season with Spartak (Moscow), where he centered the top line and impressed enough to merit an invitation to the national team. RussianProspects has learned that the young forward has been loaned by Spartak (Moscow) to Metallurg (Magnitogorsk) for the remainder of the season. In the case of a lockout next season, the young forward is signed by Spartak through 2005-06. | Round 27 Game Notes
Russian Super League - SEVERSTAL (Cherepovets) – METALLURG (Magnitogorsk) – 3:3 (1:1,
0:1, 2:1, 0:0).
Yuri Dobryshkin (Atlanta Thrashers) potted a couple of goals for Severstal.
He scored the first one by converting with a precise wrist shot on a defensive
error of a former Washington Capitals prospect Alexei Tezikov.
MOLOT-PRIKAMYE (Perm) — SALAVAT YULAYEV (Ufa) — 0:1 (0:0,
0:0, 0:1).
Igor Grigorenko (Detroit Red Wings) skated in his first game for Salavat
Yulayev (Ufa) after being loaned to the Super League club by Lada (Togliatti).
Former Pittsburgh Penguins 2nd round pick Alexander Zevakhin
was another new addition to Salavat’s roster.
NEFTKHIMIK (Nizhnekamsk) – SPARTAK (Moscow) – 0:2 (0:0,
0:1, 0:1).
Spartak’s new top line Shalamai – Fedorov
(Vancouver Canucks) – Koltsov (Pittsburgh Pengiuns) looked
very strong in its first game. The line didn’t move mountains, but the
did account for both of Spartak’s goals. On the first goal, Fedor Fedorov
won the face off and passed the puck to Korsunov (Anaheim Mighty
Ducks), who scored with a slap shot from the blue line. Towards the end of the
game, Fedorov himself scored the first Super League goal of his career.
CSKA (Moscow) – LADA (Togliatti) – 2:0 (0:0, 0:0, 2:0).
Maxim Kondratiev (New York Rangers) skated in his first game for Lada
since returning back from Hartford. The young blue liner impressed with his
“Robocop” looking blue visor. Lada’s head coach was happy
with his performance. From what may have been leftovers of playing in the AHL,
Kondratiev was a physical force on the ice, hitting everything that moved. Alexander
Nikulin (Ottawa Senators) looked great centering CSKA’s second
line. The young center assisted on both CSKA goals.
AK BARS (Kazan) – LOKOMOTIV (Yaroslavl) – 2:1 (0:0, 1:0,
1:1).
Enver Lisin (Phoenix Coyotes) didn’t get much more than 7 minutes
of ice time during the game. This is largely because he is satisfying the two
U20 player requirement for Ak Bars. Unlike Lisin, however, Kazan’s other
“requirement” player Andrei Pervyshin (St. Louis)
skated in regular shifts all game long.

| F. Fedorov (Vancouver Canucks) finally makes his way to Russia
Russian Super League - Fedor Fedorov (Vancouver Canucks) has signed a lockout deal with Spartak (Moscow) of the Russian Super League (Russia 1). Rumors have circulated that the young forward would play with his older brother Sergei, but it now appears that this was not meant to be. Fedorov did not show any rust from not playing over the course of the past few months, fighting hard near the boards and skating faster than a lot of players on the ice.
In an interview with Soviet Sport’s Pavel Lysenkov, Fedorov had the followin to say about his return to Russia:
I just got back from Detroit to Moscow. I haven’t yet gotten used to the Russian style of hockey. For example, I am not yet used to playing without the red line. At first I didn’t even know where to skate. But I hope to get in shape soon. Where will my brother play? I honestly don’t know. | | 12/24/2003

The young forward has spent most of the season on the fourth line with the young forwards, and has not yet had this kind of an opportunity to shine. | |
