Talent Analysis:
A butterfly goalie with very good speed...good recovery time...a capable stick handler...a very gifted skater...often skates far out of the crease to challenge opponents, which sometimes leads to errors...an above average glove hand...competitive, and has been able to effectively compete at the highest level of hockey in Russia - the Super League (Russia 1)...needs to improve his work ethic during practices, as he tends to not work hard during practices, but turns it on during games.
Back In Russia:
Sergei Borisov is the product of Rus Moscow’s hockey school and signed with CSKA during the summer of
NHL Outlook:
Not one of the top goaltenders in the draft, but Borisov has a significant upside. The young goaltender does need to improve his work ethic and conditioning to take the next step in his development. Unfortunately for him, CSKA Moscow has signed two top class goaltenders in Travaj and Fomichev, leaving little room for upward movement for the young goalie. Borisov will likely retain his starting job on CSKA 2 and continue to fill in on CSKA in the cases of injury. One place where he will be able to showcase his skills will likely be Russia’s U20 squad, where he will likely compete for the starting job. Overall, his potential may be better than Khudobin’s. However, his accomplishments thus far in his career and the uncertainty regarding how seriously he can apply himself put him behind Khudobin. The talented goaltender will likely be selected in the latter mid rounds of the draft.
