Russian Super League - HC Lada thwarted an effort by several players to annul their contracts with the club over the issue of non-payment. The players involved were Vasily Koshechkin (Tampa Bay Lightning), Alexei Emelin (Montreal Canadiens), Alexander Bumagin (Edmonton Oilers) and Alexander Guskov (Columbus Blue Jackets). The team was not paid for a period of two months, but was then paid in full two days before the hearing was initiated. Due to the payment in full, the players were denied their request, even though it was likely that the threat of the hearing and losing these valuable assets was what lead to Lada¡¯s payment of salaries.
Alexander Guskov (Columbus Blue Jackets) will not return to the former Super League champion Lokomotiv Yaroslavl for the 2004-05 season. According to the Soviet Sport newspaper, there is a rumor that he has already signed a contract with the current Super League champion Avangard Omsk.
The Columbus Blue Jackets signed Alexander Guskov to a one year deal. The NHL club drafted Guskov late in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, clearly hoping the experienced defenseman could help out right away.
