03/25/2009 Denis Denisov (Buffalo Sabres) is not ok

Continental Hockey League (KHL) -  Denis Denisov (Buffalo Sabres) suffered a shoulder injury in the last minutes of the fourth playoff game between Dynamo and Ak Bars. The talented young defenseman was originally reported to have been fine after the scare, but it appears the injury was more serious than it originally appears and Denisov will need three months to recover from the injury.
03/23/2009 Dynamo beats Kazan to even the series 2:2

Continental Hockey League (KHL) -  It was clear that Dynamo soundly beat Ak Bars after just two periods of action when the two teams went into the locker rooms for the second break with the Moscow club leading 4:1. Eric Landry scored two of the tallies, while Denis Denisov (Buffalo Sabres) and Kalyuzhni netted one each. Oleg Petrov scored the lonely goal for Ak Bars early on, but the game was never really close. Dynamo dominated the action and had plenty of chances to widen the lead if not for the play of back up Stanislav Galimov during the latter half of the game after he replaced Finnish netminder Norrena in net. The third period took an ugly turn when it became clear that Dynamo was the victor, as Ak Bars players begun to take runs and play more physically. An ugly incident broke out when Nikita Alexeev (Chicago Blackhawks) fought Daniil Markov , as it was especially unpleasant since Alexeev started the fight with Markovís back to him, as Markov was trying to settle things with another Kazan player Obukhov first. Markov still got the better of Alexeev, though it was impressive for the lanky former NHL forward to even try to go at Dynamo captain and former NHL hard nosed defenseman. Another scare happened even later in the game when a Kazan forward drove to the net and then went practically skates first into Vitali Eremeev, though fortunately no one was hurt. Denis Denisov (Buffalo Sabres) was also hit in the boards in the last minutes and had to be escorted to the locker room, though he appears to be ok as well. Now the series are tied 2:2 in the best of seven series, and the next game will take place in Kazan on Wednesday.

Talent Analysis:
Physical Play and Size: Stands around 6""0 and 180 pounds....Boxes the crease out well and doesn""t get phased by physical punishment from his opponents, though his own game can hardly be called physical....Good along the boards and is very effective at tying up opponents....needs to bulk up and improve strength level. Skating: Skating is one of his strong points...Has a smooth stride and looks fluid on the ice skating backwards and forward....Doesn""t bolt around on the ice and usually stays in position....Is capable of an impressive burst of speed and at times suprises defenses by carrying the puck through all three zones, but top speed and acceleration still not much higher then average. Shot: Has an all around good shot....Slap shot has good speed, release, though needs a bit of work on precision, especially when aiming top shelf. Defense: Responsible defensively in his own end....doesn""t hesitate to block shots....solid positinally in the defensive zone....sometimes joins in on offense and takes off into the offensive zone, needing a forward to back him up. Technical Skills: A good stick handler.....can handle the puck in his own end....at times tries to do too much offensively and loses the puck in penetration attempts. Hockey Sense: Sees the ice very well and capable of threading some nice passes...Tends to make sound decisions in his own end with and without the puck....Example: on several occasions showed ability to judge when to join a struggle near the boards and when to stay back and secure the net. Overall: Denis is a solid, safe defenseman with very promising two way potential. He has a good shot, overall skill level and sees the sees the ice very well. Denis needs to work on his top speed and limit his offensive ventures a bit to the role of a dman instead of a winger. With the right coaching
Back In Russia:
2002-03 Season Review: Denisov spent the 2002-03 season with the Salavat Yulayev Ufa, on loan from the Soviet Wings. He delivered a strong performance throughout the season, anchoring Ufa
NHL Outlook:
Denis was one of Russia's top defensemen eligible for the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. Suprisingly he slipped to the 149th overall spot, where the Buffalo Sabres took him with their fourth pick. Denisov has the potential to be a top four NHL defenseman and a power play specialist. His two way game would fit well in the NHL. He could develop into a Andrei Markov type player with a bit less puck handling skill, but a stronger defensive upside.
