05/01/2009 Russia beats Sweden 6-5 in OT at ice hockey worlds

World Championships -  BERN, Switzerland — Defending champion Russia beat Sweden 6-5 in overtime Thursday after trailing three times in their second-round match at the ice hockey world championship. Defenseman Dmitri Kalinin (Buffalo Sabres) scooped a loose puck into the net with 56 seconds remaining in the five-minute extra period for his second goal of the game, after Sweden had tied it at 5-5 with 1:14 left in the third. The victory gives Russia early control of the six-team Group E, with the top four teams advancing to the quarterfinals next week. (By Graham Dunbar for USA Today) READ MORE

Continental Hockey League (KHL) -  QUEBEC CITY – A three-goal first-period outburst set the tone as Russia took a 5-3 decision over Switzerland at the Colisee on Monday. Proudly wearing the “C,” Maxim Sushinsky scored twice to lead the way. With the win to close out the Qualifying Round, unbeaten Russia will meet fourth-place Switzerland again in Wednesday’s quarter-finals, and the Czechs and Swedes, second and third respectively in Group E, will face each other that day. Unlike previous years, there is no cross-over between the two different Qualifying Round groups for the quarter-finals. Alexander Ovechkin (Washington Capitals) added a goal and an assist, and Dmitri Kalinin (Buffalo Sabres) and Sergei Fedorov also scored for Russia. Raffaele Sannitz, Julien Vauclair, and Romano Lemm replied for the Swiss. (IIHF.com article) READ MORE

This jersey was worn by Buffalo Sabres defenseman Dmitri Kalinin (Buffalo Sabres) during the 2004 Karjala Cup EuroTour international tournament while he skated for the Russian senior national team. The jersey shows light wear and Allianz patches on the shoulders as well as a Visa ad on the back of the jersey. Kalinins name is screened onto a name plate which was then sewed onto the jersey. The jersey will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from RussianProspects.com. READ MORE
