03/01/2008 Oleg Piganovich sets a new Russian Superleague record

Aged 23, Oleg Piganovich from Yaroslavl, a hockey powerhouse that has recently seen grow good players as Sergei Mozyakin (Columbus Blue Jackets), Vitaly Vishnevski and Ivan Nepryaev, has entered into Russian hockey history as he broke Nikolai Makarov’s record for more goals in a RSL season, 21, recorded in the 81/82 season. Nikolai Makarov is the older brother of the more famous Sergei Makarov. Oleg's team has still one regular season game to play, facing Khimik Mytischi away. Curiously, both set the record while playing for main Chelyabinsk team, another historic club that produced many good players, as Sergei Gonchar (Pittsburgh Penguins) and Vyacheslav Bykov. “It’s pleasant to be a record holder” – has said to “Sport den za dnem” correspondent.
