09/22/2009 Ilya Proskuryakov named KHL player of the week

Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) -  Ilya Proskuryakov was named KHL player of the week last week. The young goalie allowed just two goals in the first four regular season, which ties for the Russian Elite league (whether it is the KHL or the Super League) record. The former member of Russia's U18 and U20 squads has been on fire this past season, coming out of seemingly nowhere to earn the starting job with Metallurg Mg., a club that has at one point been developing Anton Khudobin (Minnesota Wild) for this position. Now clearly one of the top young netminders in Russia along with Stanislav Galimov , Proskuryakov has developed into a strong starting netminder.
03/23/2009 Dynamo beats Kazan to even the series 2:2

Continental Hockey League (KHL) -  It was clear that Dynamo soundly beat Ak Bars after just two periods of action when the two teams went into the locker rooms for the second break with the Moscow club leading 4:1. Eric Landry scored two of the tallies, while Denis Denisov (Buffalo Sabres) and Kalyuzhni netted one each. Oleg Petrov scored the lonely goal for Ak Bars early on, but the game was never really close. Dynamo dominated the action and had plenty of chances to widen the lead if not for the play of back up Stanislav Galimov during the latter half of the game after he replaced Finnish netminder Norrena in net. The third period took an ugly turn when it became clear that Dynamo was the victor, as Ak Bars players begun to take runs and play more physically. An ugly incident broke out when Nikita Alexeev (Chicago Blackhawks) fought Daniil Markov , as it was especially unpleasant since Alexeev started the fight with Markov’s back to him, as Markov was trying to settle things with another Kazan player Obukhov first. Markov still got the better of Alexeev, though it was impressive for the lanky former NHL forward to even try to go at Dynamo captain and former NHL hard nosed defenseman. Another scare happened even later in the game when a Kazan forward drove to the net and then went practically skates first into Vitali Eremeev, though fortunately no one was hurt. Denis Denisov (Buffalo Sabres) was also hit in the boards in the last minutes and had to be escorted to the locker room, though he appears to be ok as well. Now the series are tied 2:2 in the best of seven series, and the next game will take place in Kazan on Wednesday.
01/26/2009 Young goalie Ilya Proskuryakov earns a shutout and scores a goal!

Continental Hockey League (KHL) -  A former ranked NHL draft prospect and Russian junior national team goalie, 1987 born Ilya Proskuryakov earned an important shutout and also scored the first ever goal by a goalie in the KHL during a close contest against HC Ak Bars. The young netminder turned aside 29 shots and while his club was leading 1:0 with just 15 seconds left in the game Proskuryakov tried to clear the puck out of the zone, but his clear became a shot when it bounced past defenseman Ilya Nikulin (Atlanta Thrashers) and eventually made to the net, hitting the post before rolling in. Proskuryakov has enjoyed a career season with HC Metallurg, taking over the starting position and playing 33 games, winning 21 of them (3rd in the league) with an impressive 92%save percentage and 2.15 GAA. Along with Georgy Gellashvilli and Stanislav Galimov , he remains one of the top undrafted goalies to skate in Russia.
