08/22/2008 U20 Russian squad loses Vitali Karamnov and Vadim Zhelobnyuk

Continental Hockey League (KHL) -  U20 Team Russia has lost a couple of fairly important young players from the lineup for the upcoming U20 Four Nations Tournament. The squad lost forward Vitali Karamnov to a broken toe, and goalie Vadim Zhelobnyuk to a foot injury. While Zhelobnyuk is a capable netminder, his loss is not as significant as he was not Russia's starter and with the squad still having NHL prospects Sergei Gaiduchenko (Florida Panthers) and Alexander Pechursky (Pittsburgh Penguins) at its disposal in net.
02/05/2008 2008 NHL Entry Draft RP Rankings Released!

We have released our January rankings of young Russian prospects for the upcoming 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Not surprisingly Nikita Filatov leads the group after a stellar U20 World Junior Championships performance. Vyacheslav Voinov is another strong prospect who is second in line. Overage prospect Viktor Tikhonov is also positioned very high at #5 after his great performance at the U20 WJC. A few names from the previous drafts are also present, including Vitali Karamnov , Vadim Golubtsov , and Alexander Ryabev , who were all deserving of being drafted last year and have been performing relatively well this season. Talent Analysis:
Scout 1: possesses solid skating skills .. takes advantage of his acceleration .. possesses solid first-step quickness and agility .. solid top-end speed .. should further upgrade on his lower-body strength and balance .. an above-average stickhandler .. corrals difficult passes well even while turning .. uses both sides of the stick blade .. can make quick dekes to maintain control of the puck .. plays with his head up and takes the extra second to read the play before gaining possession of the puck .. uses the boards in a smart way to pass the puck to a linemate .. a threat on the powerplay units as a set-up man from the corner .. possesses okay scoring instincts .. patient once on a scoring chance .. fires a quick wrist and snap shot with a solid accuracy .. keeps his slap shot hidden too often .. okay in-close finishing skills .. thrives in open space but also isn't afraid of tight spaces .. willing to look for rebounds .. needs to bulk up in order to be more effective but got stronger when compared to the previous season .. prone to the odd dirty foul .. possesses an adequate defensive awareness .. returns back quickly and plays a simple defensive game .. still could improve on his defensive positioning .. average in the face-off circle .. a right-shooting forward.
