Player News
12/16/2009 Sergei Ostapchuk not to play at WJC

U20 World Junior Championships -  After Evgeny Grachev and Vyacheslav Voinov (Los Angeles Kings), also Belarussian-born Sergei Ostapchuk has been left out of the WJC team, this time by the IIHF itself. This has been announced today directly by the National Junior team head coach Vladimir Plyuschev. Ostapchuk is the fifth player from the preliminary long list who won't skate at the WJC as we have to count also the injuries of Andrei Loktionov (Los Angeles Kings) and Alexander Zalivin. On the bright side, today the team has been joined by Anton Klementyev (New York Islanders).
11/29/2009 Andrei Loktionov (Los Angeles Kings) out four months, will miss the WJC

National Hockey League (NHL) -  As we reported earlier, Andrei Loktionov (Los Angeles Kings) unfortunately suffered from an injury during his very first NHL game on November 25th. Today's report didn't bring good news as he will have to sit for four months in order to go through rehab after a surgery needed to repair a torn capsule that will be done soon.
11/26/2009 Andrei Loktionov (Los Angeles Kings) injured in first NHL game

National Hockey League (NHL) -  In the third period of his first NHL game, center Andrei Loktionov (Los Angeles Kings) left the ice after a hit with an upper-body injury report, which has turned out being a dislocated shoulder, not a good injury to deal with. The young center is now sidelined indefinitely by his team, further news should be available in the next few days.

Draft Rankings and Comments:
Rank 1: #14
Rank 2: #12
Talent Analysis:

Scout 1: a gifted center who can handle physical pressure and is useful in the defensive side of the game…a versatile player, can play also as winger…good skater with a good acceleration and first step…doesn’t have an imposing size at 5’11”, 187 lbs, but doesn’t skate away from the traffic…good defensive play, knows how to shadow opponents and to cover passing lines, but has to work on his concentration…must improve in the faceoffs to become more effective…smart without the puck, can be dangerous with his clever movement play…good stickhandler with above average puck-control…his combination of passing game and intelligence with and without the puck makes him a dangerous player during powerplay stretches…has showed some leadership in his career so far, but it has to be revised once he hits the pro game…tries hard throughout the entire game, being not intimidated by the aggressive opponents…doesn’t make many errors, plays out of trouble mostly making good decisions.

Back In Russia:
Andrei Loktionov was born in Voskresensk, a historical place for Russian hockey, as that city produced many many quality players. He played in the local Khimik, then for Spartak Moscow till 2006, when he joined HC Lokomotiv Yaroslavl’s system. In Yaroslavl Loktionov played mainly with the farm team, doing well given his twenty-eight points during the 2006/07 season. In that year he also started playing regularly with Russia-90 national team, constantly in the first lines. During the 2007/08 season he skated in the Ivan Hlincka Tournament being the team leader in both scoring and +/-. Later on he made his debut in the Super League (Russia 1), with one assist in five contests. In April 2008 he starred at the WJC under-18 in Kazan where he centered other highly touted prospects Nikita Filatov and Kirill Petrov, playing a solid tournament with eight point in six games.
NHL Outlook:
Considering his excellent playmaking ability, patient style and excellent technique, Loktionov is one of the hottest prospects already playing in North America. He had a very solid season in the OHL in which he was among the top scorers of the league, plus he was the second overall scorer in the playoffs with 33 points. He might go to the AHL for the 09-10 season and break the Kings' roster in the 10-11.
