04/16/2009 OHL: Q&A with Evgeny Molotilov

Canadian Junior Leagues -  Evgeny Molotilov is a young Russian player who moved from Dynamo Moscow to the OHL this summer after the CHL Import draft. He was picked by the Guelph Storm after advice coming from Hockey Hall of Famer Igor Larionov. In the first couple of months, he had troubles adjusting to the game and to the different life, but after some time, he was one of the best defensemen on his team, getting much praise from the coaches. He finished his first season in the OHL with six assists in 55 games and has been an integral part of the special teams. Unfortunately, his teams run in the playoffs finished early because of a first round sweep against the Saginaw Spirit. Evgeny Molotilov is an interesting defenseman whose 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame will probably get some interest in the upcoming draft, despite the fact that he hasn't been ranked by the CSB. Draft Rankings and Comments:
2009 NHL ENTRY DRAFT
Rank 1: #19
Rank 2: #25 Ranking Comments:a big sized, stay-at-home defenseman from Moscow now playing for OHLís Guelph Storm. He is reported to play an important role with his team Ė despite his young age playing on the first or second pairing. He scored only six points so far, but it is not a big issue, as his primary role with the club is defense. His style of playing might transfer well to the NHL, but he is still a bit raw and inexperienced.
