07/20/2010 Alexander Avtsin signs with Montreal Canadiens

National Hockey League (NHL) -  Alexander Avtsin signed an Entry Level contract with the Montreal Canadiens. The 19 years old forward just skated at the Habs' development camp after consensually breaking his contract with Dynamo Moscow of the KHL. It's still unclear where he will play next season, but most likely he'll spend his first year in North America in the AHL with the Hamilton Bulldogs. Alexander Avtsin (Montreal Canadiens) scored nine points in this year's KHL prior suffering a serious wrist injury that closed his season.

Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) -  Alexander Avtsin (Montreal Canadiens) is without a doubt one of the higheest touted prospects from Russia. Unfortunately he is not playing now because of a hand injury, and will come back most likely only in one month. 01/22/2010 KHL update: Avtsin injured, prospects score first KHL goal

Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) -  The second KHL season is undergoing and prospects get their share of attention. Unfortunately it's not a good news the one we report about Dynamo Moscow's Alexander Avtsin (Montreal Canadiens): during a regular season match he suffered from a hand injury and will have to sit for two months. His place in the lineup has been taken by one of MHL top scorers, Nikita Dvurechensky, who took only two games to score his first KHL goal today in the 4-6 home defeat of Dynamo against the other Dinamo from Riga.
But Dvurechensky hasn't been the only one prospect to score the first KHL goal: 2010 eligible Evgeny Kuznetsov scored the game winner in Tratkor's win in Togliatti against Lada with a smooth backhander one-on-one against the goalie. Kuznetsov might be chosen in next Draft's first round.

Draft Rankings and Comments:
Rank 2: #6
Talent Analysis:
An exceptional skater with good agile player, who makes things happen with his excellent skating...excellent acceleration and very good top speed...a bit raw, has to polite up his play and to get further experience...good physical strength, but has to use his size more...mainly an offensive player, has to work more in the own zone...a quality sniper who can either set up...has to pass more and to be more creative while sharing the puck...very good finisher with quick and strong wrist and snap to watch, likes to stickhandle and dribble past defensemen...interesting potential, might break up and become a first line player...
Back In Russia:
NHL Outlook:
Alexander Avtsin is that kind of player who would be welcomed in any NHL franchise because of his technique, skating and size. While he isn't tested against top end players as he only played with Dynamo junior farm team, he showcased tons of talent and is a record breaker for Dynamo-2 team. He can go far in the hockey world but he needs to gain some experience quickly. He might be a surprise on the draft day.
