12/29/2011 Russia skates past Slovakia with a 3-1 score

U20 World Junior Championships -  After winning the first game against Switzerland, Team Russia kept staying perfect with a 3-1 win over Team Slovakia. Bragin's team opponents actually managed to go 1-0 with a late first period goal, but the Russians stroke back in the second period with a blue line slap shot by Igor Ozhiganov.
The third period was the key one: five minutes after its start Mikhail Naumenkov made it a 2-1 game with a nice wrister - again from the blue line - after Ignat Zemchenko won a faceoff in the offensive zone. "It was pleasant to score such an important goal. It was unexpected", Naumenkov declared after the game.
The Russians sealed the deal later on with a goal by Nikita Kucherov (Tampa Bay Lightning), who tipped in a beautiful pass from behind the net by Mikhail Grigorenko . Andrei Makarov earned a W with a 31-save performance. Team Russia will face Team Latvia on December 30th.

06/24/2011 Top 10 Russians eligible for the 2011 NHL draft
Talent Analysis:
An exciting forward with some serious skills in the offensive zone...a very good skater with excellent acceleration and first step, hard to contain if he gets some space in open ice...needs to work on his size, he is a bit small and can be in trouble with bigger players...excellent stickhandling and play through traffic...very good passing and combinational game, he's not a playmaker, but knows how to share the puck...a bit of an unidimensional player, will need to work on his defensive play...great goalscoring abilities...gifted with an excellent one-timer, which makes him a constant threat on powerplay situations...can score a lot with his fast wristshot...loves to go top shelf...NHL first line potential...
Back In Russia:
A native of Maikop, Russia, Kucherov moved to Moscow at young age and he started playing with the White Bears junior team. He was then drafted by CSKA Moscow in the 2009 KHL junior draft and he became a force in the MHL, even outscoring Alexander Khokhlachev in his first season. His stock went through the roof after his unreal U18s campaign, in which he posted record breaking numbers, 21 points (11 goals and 10 assists) in mere 7 games.
NHL Outlook:
A player with an immense talent and excellent offensive skills, Kucherov is a very interesting player who is still a couple of years far from the NHL. With some work on his size and defensive play he can become an NHL first liner. The infamous Russian factor is going to make him fall during the selections.
RP's draft projection: Middle second round.
