Russian Super League - Denis Yachmenev (Florida Panthers), the young brother of former NHL forward and Wayne Gretzky linemate Vitaly Yachmenev, was released today by his club, HC Amur. The young forward has thus far developed into a strong High League (Russia 2) and a fringe Super League (Russia 1) player. He has struggled to find consistent ice time at the Super League level and will likely spend the 2007-08 season somewhere in the High League.
Alexei Zotkin (Chicago Blackhawks) and Denis Yachmenev (Florida Panthers) joined Metallurg Novokuznetsk's training camp. Zotkin has been in Metallurg Magnitogorsk's system, but after a relatively successful Super League debut during the 2002-03 season, he received no ice time in 2003-04. It did not appear that he was any longer in the club's plans and his departure for Novokuznetsk confirms this. Yachmenev spent the 2003-04 season with Amur Khabarovsk, mainly because of his brother, Vitali, who came back from the NHL to join that club for a lot of money. He saw spot duty on the fourth line in about half of the season's games.
Former Nashville Predators left wing left wing Vitali Yachmenev may be returning back to Russia after not getting a qualifying offer from the Predators. He and his 19 year old brother, Denis Yachmenev, who was drafted by the Florida Panthers 200th overall in 2002, both will attend Amur Khabarovsk training camp.
