| Konstantin Barulin (St. Louis Blues) one of Russia’s top four goalies
Starting this season, Konstantin Barulin’s (St. Louis Blues) primary goal appeared to establish himself as a credible Super League (Russia 1) backup for Spartak (Moscow). The young netminder significantly exceeded expectations and beyond simply backing up Tyler Moss, he took over the starting spot and performed very well during a stretch when Moss was injured. The Canadian veteran actually had to battle to eventually get his starting job back. Now young Russian goaltender has become one of the four netminders invited to Russia’s training camp prior to the Sweden games and accompanied the squad to Stockholm. While he did not start in a single game in Sweden, Barulin will likely stay with the team during the World Championships in a third string role if Ilya Bryzgalov is unable to join the Russian team. Regardless, his actual consideration for the senior national team is an important enough developmental step in his career. | | 05/01/2006
