In the second period Slovakia tied the score with a shorthanded goal by Marek Lison just to allow another goal to Russia with a solo effort by Petr Khokhryakov. Later in the second period the Slovaks tied again with Adam Lapsansky. After a scoreless third period Kirill Petrov (New York Islanders) collected his second assist in the overtime, giving the winning puck to Pavel Chernov just after twelve seconds played in the extratime.
